I used a regular ham the first time I made this, because that was what I had and it came out great! I am going to try a spiral ham this time to see the difference. I also used Apricot Jam instead of the honey.

It would still work however with the spiral cut the juices and brown sugar get inside better. You may want to make some cuts on your own before cooking. You won’t regret it this recipe is delicious.

I would debone it. The point of a spiral cut ham us that all the resulting melted brown sugar and pineapple infused the ham with flavor, in fact u added a jar of maraschino cherries.

IMHO, the spiral cut ham is the best option because it provides more surface area to attract all the flavor. The juices and flavor would not penetrate an unsliced ham. It looks like it would be a better Honey Baked Ham.

I cooked an 11 lb one for Thanksgiving this way, As long as it fits in your crock pot it should work. Mine was boneless unsliced and everyone said it was great. We used brown sugar, pineapple rings and the juice from the pineapple poured over the brown sugar and pineapple. I tried it simply to have more usable oven time. We always have to get done and out of the oven before all the other goodies can be baked. This worked out well

Yes – I use brown sugar and mustard mixed into a paste and spread over the (whole) ham or tuck it between the slices on a spiral ham, then top with the pineapple (rings on whole ham, crushed on spiral). Cherries inside the rings/ halved and tucked between the slices are pretty – and good! Been doing this for almost 50 years now. 🙂 Merry Christmas Everybody

Crushed or whole slices for the pineapples with the ham work best. Add some pineapple juice if you do whole slices from a fresh pineapple. Best ham our family has ever had.

My Mom used to make ham like this when I was just 7 or 8 years old. (I’m 83 now) And I began making it when my kids were small. Mom (and I) used sliced pineapple and also scored the ham with a sharp knife and inserted whole cinnamons at the cross sections of the diamond-shapped cuts. STuck toothpicks into pineapple slices to hold them in place. Also a marashino cherry into center of each pineapple slice. Brown sugar over top and around edges and Pineapple around the edges of the ham. The resulting “juice/sweet “gravy” to be spooned onto each slice of ham when it was plated. Talk about a centerpiece!! When she sat that ham on the table, peoples’ mouths just fell open!!

I rechecked the receipe that I printed off from the site and it says to cook on low for 31/2 to 4 hours. Did the instructions change?
