- 3 1/2 cups brown sugar

- 1 20 oz can pineapple tidbits or chunks – do not drain
- In a large crock pot, over 6-quarts or larger, cover the bottom with only 2 cups of the brown sugar
- Place ham on top of the brown sugar, open the slices slightly with your hands
- Pour the Honey over the ham, evenly
- Add the pineapple around the sides (with the juice) and some on top

Hi, can you use this method on a ham which is not spiral-cut? Thanks
I used a regular ham the first time I made this, because that was what I had and it came out great! I am going to try a spiral ham this time to see the difference. I also used Apricot Jam instead of the honey.
It would still work however with the spiral cut the juices and brown sugar get inside better. You may want to make some cuts on your own before cooking. You won’t regret it this recipe is delicious.
This is the only kind of ham I buy! I think the spirals are a waste of money!!
Can you use whole pineapples instead ?

Best ham Ive ever prepared. HONEY BAKED STORE has nothing this good. For what you pay for them at the Honey Baked Stores you could prepare 3-4 hams at home. Will melt in your mouth.
Can you use bone in shank or butt?
PATRICIA CANAL says
Can you use a non spiral ham ?
I would debone it. The point of a spiral cut ham us that all the resulting melted brown sugar and pineapple infused the ham with flavor, in fact u added a jar of maraschino cherries.
I bought a non spiral cut ham with the bone in, I plan to spiral cut it myself, before placing it in the crock pot , should work just fine
What size jar of cherries did you use?! Did you use the juice too?!
Christina Robb says
Cook on low or high? Thank you.
Number 6 of the instruction said to cook it on low for 4 1/2 – 6 hours.

Does this have to be a spiral sliced ham? Can you use a regular one?
John Beyea says
IMHO, the spiral cut ham is the best option because it provides more surface area to attract all the flavor. The juices and flavor would not penetrate an unsliced ham. It looks like it would be a better Honey Baked Ham.
Linda Caudill says
I tried this and the ham was very good but had a terrible time getting it out of Crock pot!!! Anyone else with the problem? Hi
Nicky Draves says
Going to try this. I don’t care for spiral cut hams because they tend to be dry. This looks like it would solve that problem.
Melissa Pafford says
Can you use a ham that is not spiral?
I used a ham that was not spiral. I did though, add slits in it so the juices could penetrate. It was delicious!
I always use a non-spiral ham!
Sounds good but that’s alot of brown sugar
Robin D. says
I agree! I’m thinking of significantly reducing the sugar.
How large is the ham?
I cooked an 11 lb one for Thanksgiving this way, As long as it fits in your crock pot it should work. Mine was boneless unsliced and everyone said it was great. We used brown sugar, pineapple rings and the juice from the pineapple poured over the brown sugar and pineapple. I tried it simply to have more usable oven time. We always have to get done and out of the oven before all the other goodies can be baked. This worked out well

in addition to what you already use, top with a generous helping of maraschino cherries and cherry juice and your family will love it even more. I’ve done it that way for about 35 years and its wonderful.

I found this last week, then, as if by divine intervention, someone gave us a spiral sliced ham. It’s in the crock pot now, and my house smells so good it’s insane.
I usually do not buy spiral because it tends to be dry, this may be the answer

Use a bit of yellow mustard if yo9u want to cut some of the sweetness.
Lynda Miley says
Yes – I use brown sugar and mustard mixed into a paste and spread over the (whole) ham or tuck it between the slices on a spiral ham, then top with the pineapple (rings on whole ham, crushed on spiral). Cherries inside the rings/ halved and tucked between the slices are pretty – and good! Been doing this for almost 50 years now. 🙂 Merry Christmas Everybody
About how much yellow mustard would you use for a spiral ham?
Can you use a ham butt instead of spiral ham.
Did this for Thanksgiving & was totally impressed. Everyone loved it.
I’m going to have this for Christmas!!! Yum
linda roberts says
It looks like crushed pineapple, or does the pineapple fall apart from cooking?
CARMEN B says
It says on #6 COOK IN “LOW” FOR “4 1/2 TO 6” HOURS.
I had always use maraschino cherries and it’s juice with the pineapple rings, cloves to keep the pineapple rings on the ham and for extra flavor. Then place the cherries in the pineapple holes as decoration 😉
Mary Lou Snary says
Sounds like a lot of sugar. And then if the maraschino cherries and juice are added-wow. Does it taste really sweet?
Also, is this a whole or half a ham?
Can I use uncooked ham joint and just cook it for longer ?
I have someone who is allergic to Pineapple – can I omit it or what else can I use in its place?
Orange juice and apple juice half cup each
I’ve made something similar to this with root beer. You can try pouring root beer over the ham in place of the pineapple juice and maybe some cherries as a substitute.
What may I substitute for pineapple as family members are allergic to pineapple? Thanks.
I was thinking a sweet apple such as Honeycrisp or Gala would work as well; pork and apples are a natural combination. Or possibly Mandarin oranges might work.
Dian Fischer says
Yes I used sliced peaches or apricots.
colista galloway says
i’m going to try this with a regular uncooked ham . increased cooking time, but can use the oven for other foods and still save time and space.
I am going to try this, I have a spiral ham. I had turkey for Thanksgiving so will have this for Christmas.
I made this and it was so tender and delicious.
Katie Lindbo says
I’m going to try this for Christmas, looks soooooooo good!!!
Lori Duchesne says
I am making this today with close to a 6 lb boneless spiral ham. I’m concerned over the length of cooking time for a ham that’s already pre-cooked. 4 1/2 to 6 hours even on low seems excessive and resulting in a dry overcooked ham.
Cooked this last year. My family almost went insane, it was so good. RIDICULOUSLY easy. FYI, cook it on LOW, per the instructions, since the ham is pre-cooked. (Some people questioned it.)
THANK YOU for this recipe. We’re cooking it again this year, and my wife and kids already have their forks and knives ready.
What is that white/yellow stuff on top of the ham (below the brown sugar before cooking it? Is that butter?
How many pounds of this ham should I get for 12 adults?
What size ham for 11 adults?
Your directions said cook on low 3.5 – 4 hours on low. Comments say your directions say 4.5 to 6 hours. Which is it please? Sounds YUMMY

Kimberly Lewis says
Sorry meant to say a jar of regular honey!!
i am wanting to fix this for christmas, but my ham is not pre sliced, will this still work?
Does it have to be a spiral ham?
Has anyone actually tried this, I want to know how good it really is

Had this for Christmas dinner! Delicious and so nice to have oven space for sides.
Why does everyone in the comments say 4.5 to 6 hrs when the recipe says 3.5 to 4 hrs? Did the recipe change?
I made this with a smaller ham in a crockpot and it was the best, most flavorful, juiciest ham I ever made, and everyone loved it.
Mark C Vrabel says
I tried this recipe in my 6 qt Crock pot on low for 4 hours, was burnt on the bottom and around the edges and very dried out.
Crock-Pot 6-Quart Cook & Carry Oval Manual Portable Slow Cooker, Red is the Crock Pot I used. Where did I go wrong?
debbie hinsperger says
I made this for Chistmas dinner, I did not use a spiral ham. I just cut slits in my ham. It turned out amazing. Everyone said “it was the best ham they ever tasted”, I will be making my ham this way from now on. Thank you for this amazingly easy recipe.
I used this recipe for Christmas. I did not have regular ham and it turned out wonderful. This is my new way to do ham forever.

Crushed or whole slices for the pineapples with the ham work best. Add some pineapple juice if you do whole slices from a fresh pineapple. Best ham our family has ever had.
Sandy Copeland says
My Mom used to make ham like this when I was just 7 or 8 years old. (I’m 83 now) And I began making it when my kids were small. Mom (and I) used sliced pineapple and also scored the ham with a sharp knife and inserted whole cinnamons at the cross sections of the diamond-shapped cuts. STuck toothpicks into pineapple slices to hold them in place. Also a marashino cherry into center of each pineapple slice. Brown sugar over top and around edges and Pineapple around the edges of the ham. The resulting “juice/sweet “gravy” to be spooned onto each slice of ham when it was plated. Talk about a centerpiece!! When she sat that ham on the table, peoples’ mouths just fell open!!
I rechecked the receipe that I printed off from the site and it says to cook on low for 31/2 to 4 hours. Did the instructions change?
I did this but added some mountain dew was so good
I’m going to try this recipe
