Ingredients Needed

Pasta: I used elbow pasta for this dish, as its texture and shape help it soak up the creamy, cheesy sauce.

Ground Beef: For this recipe, use lean ground beef. Drain off any excess fat for a healthier version.

Onion and Pepper: I used onions and peppers for the Philly vibe to add texture and flavor to this pasta recipe.

Cream of Mushroom Soup: The condensed soup adds lots of creaminess and flavor to the sauce of this dish.

Cheese: Mozzarella cheese worked great for this recipe. It added some gooey cheese, but it was mild enough that it didn’t overtake the other ingredients. I also used provolone cheese to top the dish for that classic flavor.

Sour Cream: I think sour cream is a secret ingredient. It adds a nice tangy flavor to the sauce.

Broth: Beef broth or stock adds more beefy flavor to each bite of this rich and savory pasta.

Worcestershire Sauce: This splash will add depth to your dish and give it an umami flavor.

Seasonings: Season your dish with salt and pepper, and then garnish with fresh minced parsley for a pop of color.

Variations to Recipe

Meat: For a twist in flavor, you can use ground turkey, chicken, or pork. Just cook the meat the same way, drain the fat, and then proceed to the next steps.

Meatless: Want a meatless dish? Swap the beef with mushrooms or another type of veggie. Then, swap the beef broth with a vegetable broth.

Cheese: Any type of cheese works, so experiment with what you like and find a mix to pair with it.

Vegetables: Dice up and add more veggies, such as spinach, mushrooms, diced zucchini, etc. This will add flavor and make it a heartier dish.

Spice: Add crushed red pepper flakes or a few splash of hot sauce to ramp up the heat for this dish.

Storing Leftovers

Refrigerate: Any pasta you do not eat right away can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days. Just make sure it is placed in an airtight container.

Freeze: You can freeze any of the pasta for 2-3 months. Then, thaw in the fridge overnight or defrost straight from the freezer.

Reheating: If you want to warm up your mixture, simply heat it in the microwave for a quick reheat. Alternatively, you can warm it up on low on the stovetop in a pan. Add a broth or heavy cream if the pasta seems to dry out.

What To Serve With This Philly Pasta

Are you unsure what to pair with your pasta? Try steamed veggies, a side salad, garlic bread, homemade bread with butter, etc. Feel free to serve it as a meal in one or pair it with any or all of your favorite sides.

Tips For Making

Ground Beef

Ensure that the ground beef is thoroughly cooked until it is no longer pink. Then, drain off any excess grease before proceeding to the next steps.

Saute Vegetables

Allowing the onions and peppers to cook helps enhance the flavor, soften the veggies, and create a caramelized texture. This will add lots of depth to the pasta and beef.

Pasta

Cook your pasta until it is al dente, following the directions on the back of the box. If you overcook the pasta, it will become mushy and affect the overall dish.

Texture

If you want your dish a bit creamier, add more broth or even a splash of heavy cream. Sometimes, pasta will soak up too much of the liquid and leave your dish a little dry.

FAQs

Can I use a different type of pasta?

Feel free to use any variety of pasta to replace the elbow noodles. Reach for a medium-sized pasta, such as rigatoni, penne, shells, etc.

Can I make this dish ahead of time?

You can make this dish a day before you want to whip it up. Then, pour it into a casserole pan and heat it in the oven in a covered dish when ready to heat. Or add to a skillet on the stovetop.
