Ingredients You’ll Need to Make Air Fryer Philly Cheese Steaks

Before you can make the most delicious sandwiches you’ve ever tried, be sure to have the right ingredients, including:

  • Hoagie Rolls – You can’ have a cheesesteak without the traditional roll! You should be able to find these at your local grocery store in the bakery department.
  • Ribeye Steak – Use thin sliced pieces of this steak because it’s full of flavor and easy to work with.
  • American Cheese – The classic Philly cheese steak consists of white American cheese for added flavor.
  • Onion – Slice your onions as thin or as thick as you’d like them.
  • Green Peppers – While the traditional version of a Philly cheese steak doesn’t come with green peppers, they pair well with the steak and cheese.

You’ll also need a few other ingredients, including a blend of seasonings to give your steak more flavor. You can add additional toppings, such as lettuce, tomatoes, banana peppers, mayo, ketchup, and more.

Recipe Notes & Tips

  • If you don’t have hoagie rolls, you can always make these cheese steaks on any kind of roll that you’d like, such as a kaiser roll or club roll. In fact, you can even put the steak and cheese on two slices of bread if you’d like to!
  • While this is an air fryer recipe, you’ll be glad to know that you can still prepare these in the oven. It’s always an alternative option if you don’t have an air fryer but would like to get that crisp texture from toasting the sandwich.
  • Feel free to add any toppings that you’d like to these cheesesteaks. From sweet peppers to hot peppers, pickles, relish, and more, you have more than enough toppings to choose from that are sure to take this sandwich to the next level.

Common Questions

Can I use a different type of cheese?

If you don’t want to use American cheese, you do have other options. Some people enjoy these Philly steaks with provolone cheese or mozzarella. You can also use Cheez Whiz if you prefer that over American cheese.

What type of onion should I use for these steak sandwiches?

A yellow onion is the best choice when preparing the Philly Cheese Steaks. It adds the perfect amount of flavor and tastes amazing when fried with the steak. It really takes on the flavor of the steak while enhancing the taste of each bite.

Can I make a pizza version of this?

Yes, you can. Some people like to make a pizza version of the cheesesteak by adding a bit of marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni slices on top. If you want to get creative, you can do this!
