The Ingredients Needed to Make the Christmas Salad Recipe

Before you can prepare the Christmas Salad Recipe, you’ll need to make sure you have the following ingredients:

  • Broccoli. Chop your broccoli into florets before adding them to your mixing bowl.

  • Cauliflower. Do the same thing with your broccoli, chopping it into florets.

  • Red Onion. Slice your red onion into thin pieces.

  • Cherry Tomatoes. Cut your cherry tomatoes in half before tossing them in with the other veggies.

  • Mayo. Use the mayo to create the dressing for your salad.

  • Sour Cream. Give your dressing a smoother consistency with a bit of sour cream.

  • Sugar. Add a touch of sweetness to your salad with some sugar.

It’s that simple. With these ingredients, along with vinegar and black pepper and (cheese if you choose to add) you can prepare an excellent salad that you and your family can enjoy eating.

Do I need to use fresh broccoli?

Yes! Make sure you’re using both fresh broccoli and fresh cauliflower. The fresh vegetables taste best in this salad. They have that crunch to them that frozen veggies don’t have.

Can I use yellow or white onion?

The red onion is the best type of onion to use when you’re preparing the Christmas Salad Recipe. It has a bolder taste that pairs well with the tomatoes, broccoli, and cauliflower, along with the dressing you’ll prepare from scratch. However, if you don’t have red onion, you can omit it or replace it with white or yellow onion.

Why do I need to add sugar to the dressing?

Adding sugar to the dressing takes the salad to the next level. It might sound strange to add sugar to a salad consisting of vegetables and mayo, but it works. It adds a sweet touch to a savory salad that you can pair with nearly anything.

What kind of mayo do I need to use?

Use any brand and style of mayo that you prefer. It’s fine to use low-calorie mayo or mayo that contains olive oil if you like it. If you prefer Miracle Whip, you can use it in this recipe, but expect it to give your salad a sweeter taste.

How long does it take to make the salad?

It doesn’t take too long to make the holiday salads. Because it contains simple and fresh ingredients, you can expect to spend roughly 15 minutes or less putting it together. The only extra time it takes to make the salad is the amount of time you’ll need to leave it in the fridge to chill before biting into it.

  • Save

How long does the salad need to sit in the fridge?

Let your salad chill in the fridge for at least an hour before you serve it. If you have extra time, you can leave the salad in the fridge for more than one hour so that it’s nice and cold before serving.
