This Homemade Crock Pot Chicken Tortellini Soup’s insanely delicious & is surprisingly very easy to make, you just set it and forget it! This Homemade Soup is the kind of recipe that makes your house smell amazing all day, it’s hearty without being heavy, creamy without needing cream, and filling enough to stand on its own as dinner. The tortellini makes it even better compared to classic chicken noodle soup. Those little pockets of pasta soak up all that flavorful broth and pair perfectly with the tender shredded chicken and soft carrots. It is comfort food, but elevated.
It is also incredibly easy. You let the slow cooker do most of the work, which is exactly what you need on busy weeknights. I love recipes that feel homemade and thoughtful but do not require me standing at the stove for an hour. And if you have kids, this one is usually a win. The soft tortellini and mild broth make it approachable, and it reheats beautifully for leftovers the next day.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use frozen tortellini instead of refrigerated
Yes. Frozen tortellini works great. You may need to add a little extra cooking time at the end to ensure it is fully tender.
Can I use rotisserie chicken
Absolutely. If you want to save time, stir in shredded rotisserie chicken during the last hour of cooking. It is a great shortcut.
Can I make this soup creamy
Yes. You can stir in a splash of heavy cream or half and half at the end if you prefer a richer broth.
Can I add other vegetables
Definitely. Celery, spinach, kale, or even peas would all work well in this soup.
How long will leftovers last
Stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, leftovers will keep for up to three days. The tortellini may absorb some broth, so you can add a splash of chicken broth when reheating.
Can this be frozen
It can be frozen, but keep in mind that tortellini may soften after thawing. For best texture, freeze the broth and chicken mixture, then add fresh tortellini when reheating.
What Is Chicken Tortellini Soup
Chicken Tortellini Soup is a comforting twist on classic chicken noodle soup. Instead of traditional noodles, tender cheese filled tortellini are simmered in a flavorful broth with shredded chicken, carrots, and herbs. The result is a heartier, slightly more indulgent version of a timeless favorite.
The tortellini add richness and texture while still keeping the soup light and brothy. It feels cozy and familiar but a little more special than basic chicken soup.
it’s packed with flavor, warming comfort food at it’s best!

Troubleshooting Tips
If your tortellini are too soft, they likely cooked too long. Add them closer to the end of cooking next time.
If your broth tastes bland, add a pinch of salt and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. Lemon brightens everything.
If the soup thickens too much after sitting, simply stir in a bit more warm chicken broth when reheating.
If the chicken feels dry, be sure not to overcook it initially. Slow cook just until tender enough to shred.

Storage and Reheating
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. The tortellini will continue to absorb broth, so expect it to thicken slightly.
To reheat, warm gently on the stovetop or in the microwave, adding a splash of broth if needed to loosen it back up.
For freezing, freeze the broth and chicken portion separately from the tortellini for best texture.
it’s the perfect the soup to make ahead of time because it freezes well!

Omg Delicious! I would’ve made it as is but I didn’t have the exact ingredients so I improvised. I used extra carrots and 8 oz sliced mushrooms to replace the celery, used bone-in skinless chicken thighs, and 1 Tbsp onion powder instead of an onion. It turned out amazing and my husband loved it as well. Will definitely be making this again ❤
