Ingredients

Chocolate – Milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips are both great options for the base.

Oil – The oil is going to help set up the chocolate so it isn’t wet and sticky when you touch it.

Powdered Sugar- Sift the powdered sugar so it is super fine when you go to mix it in. This will help ensure it is the best texture.

Graham Crackers – You will crush up the graham crackers to create a sand-like texture for mixing into the peanut butter layer.

Peanut Butter – I love to use crunchy peanut butter for a nice crunch factor. Any brand of peanut butter works.

Butter – Reach for salted butter that is a room temperature. The salt will enhance all the flavors of this recipe.

Tips For Success

Quality Ingredients

The quality of the chocolate and peanut butter is a must for this recipe. These are both going to be the stand-out flavors for this recipe. So make sure to buy quality flavored items.

Tart Pan

I used a fluted tart pan to create that perfect Reese’s ridge on the edge of this dessert. Now, if you do not own one you can use a different type of round pan, but it will lose some of the Reese’s peanut butter cup look. But feel free to use what you have if you don’t want to go buy a new pan.

Hand Mixer or Stand Mixer

For the peanut butter mixture, I do like to use a hand mixer or stand mixer. I find it really blends the ingredients well to ensure all the flavors are incorporated just right so each bite you get consistent flavor. You can mix with a spatula if you need to.

Allow Chocolate To Fully Set Up

Before you go to try and slice the pie make sure that you are fully allowing the chocolate to get set up. The reason is if you go to slice it and you don’t let it set up, it will fall and lose the pie shape. So make sure the chocolate is fully set.

Even Layers

Make sure to work in even layers. You can use an offset spatula to help spread out the layers so they are even. If you don’t own a spatula use the back of a spoon.

Warm Knife

Get your sharp knife nice and warm under water, then dry well on a towel. Next, create a clean slice. Then clean your knife, and repeat for those perfect slices.

Prep Pan

While you can use parchment paper, cooking spray, or a mix of both. The key is making sure your pan is prepped well or it will stick and break apart when you go to serve it up.

Storing

You will want to store this big Reese’s cup pie in a sealed container at room temperature or extend the life of the dessert by a few extra days by storing it in the fridge. This pie will last about 5-7 days. It will dry out as it sits out of course.

I do recommend if your home is hot to keep the dessert in the fridge to prevent it from melting.

Go right ahead and freeze any of the pie you do not plan to eat right away. Just store in a sealed container for 4-5 months. Then eat from frozen or thaw at room temperature for around an hour.

FAQs

What type of peanut butter is better to use, crunchy or creamy?

You can use either for this peanut butter and chocolate pie. If you prefer to not have nuts then go right ahead and reach for a creamy peanut butter.

Can I use a nut butter in replace of peanut butter?

You can use a different nut butter in replace of peanut butter. Just know each nut butter is going to create a different flavor, but also texture. If your nut mixture is runny add more powdered sugar to create the right texture. Or use less of the nut butter.

How Do I Prevent the Layers from Mixing?

Allowing the layers to set up is going to be key. The chocolate bottom layer needs to be fully set before you go to spread on the peanut butter filling. Otherwise, it will sink into the chocolate.

How Far in Advance Can I Make It?

Feel free to make this pie a day or two in advance. Just keep it in a sealed container to keep it fresh. Then slice and serve when you are ready! This is a fantastic make-ahead dessert.

Can I Use Dark Chocolate or White Chocolate?

Go right ahead and reach for any flavor of chocolate you would like. I prefer milk or semi-sweet but white chocolate, dark chocolate, etc. will work.

Ingredients

Ganache:

  • 2 ½ cups milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 ½ tbsp vegetable oil

Peanut Butter Filling:

  • 1 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 ¼ cup crunchy peanut butter
  • ½ cup salted butter room temperature

Instructions

  • Line the bottom circle of a 9-inch fluted tart pan with parchment paper and lightly spray with non-stick spray, set aside.
  • In a medium microwave safe bowl, add the chocolate and vegetable oil and melt on 30 second increments in the microwave, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
  • Spoon half of the melted chocolate into the prepared pan and evenly spread over the bottom and the sides of the pan. Be sure to get into the little grooves on the side. Chill while you prepare the filling.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and graham cracker crumbs, set aside.
  • In another medium microwave safe bowl, add the peanut butter and butter and melt on 30 second increments in the microwave until melted and smooth.
  • Pour the peanut butter mixture over the graham and sugar mixture and stir until completely incorporated.
  • Remove the tart pan from the refrigerator. Spread the peanut butter mixture evenly on top of the melted chocolate layer and smooth.
  • Spoon the remaining melted chocolate on top of the peanut butter filling and smooth all the way to the sides.
  • Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours to overnight.
  • When you are ready to serve, gently press up on the circle on the bottom of the tart pan and gently wiggle. The peanut butter cup should release. Remove the metal circle and the parchment from underneath. Feel free to use a hot butter knife to fix any imperfections along the sides of the peanut butter cup. Place on a serving tray, cut, and enjoy!
