Shrimp and Broccoli Skillet FAQ’s

Can You Replace the Red Chili Flakes?

If you want to cut back on the spice, you can leave the red chili flakes out. If you do not have red chili flakes, but you still want the spice, you can use cayenne powder or chili powder as a substitute.

How Long Can You Store the Shrimp Skillet in the Fridge?

You can store the Shrimp & Broccoli Skillet meal in the refrigerator for up to four days. When you need to reheat it, you can put it in the microwave for about 90 seconds or until warm. Besides quickly heating it in the microwave, you can add it to your skillet and reheat it on the stove to get it crisp again. The shrimp and broccoli will still taste good when reheated.

What to Use as a Substitute for Worcestershire Sauce

If you do not have Worcestershire sauce available to use when preparing the shrimp skillet meal, you can use other ingredients as a replacement for it. Some options include miso paste mixed with water, soy sauce mixed with ketchup, or soy sauce mixed with hoisin sauce and apple cider vinegar. If you have some of these other ingredients, you can quickly prepare an alternative sauce that tastes a lot like Worcestershire sauce.

The recipe starts with a savory sauce made from honey, Worcestershire sauce, ginger, garlic, and a hint of red chili flakes for a touch of heat. The sweet and savory combo coats the shrimp and broccoli beautifully, making every bite a little bit irresistible. The shrimp are seared until they’re perfectly pink and juicy, while the broccoli gets tender and slightly crispy, creating the perfect contrast in textures.

Can You Add Other Vegetables to the Shrimp Skillet?

When preparing your shrimp and broccoli in the skillet, you can add other vegetables to it. Sliced carrots or baby carrots are a great addition to this dish. The slightly sweet taste of the carrots goes great with the garlic and honey. Besides using carrots as an extra vegetable, you can add corn and cauliflower into the mix to make the dish even healthier and more fulfilling.

Is It Better to Use Frozen Broccoli or Fresh Broccoli?

It does not matter if you use frozen broccoli or fresh broccoli in this recipe. If you plan on using frozen broccoli, allow it to sit out and reach room temperature to make it easier to cook it with the shrimp and other ingredients. It may take longer for fresh broccoli to fully cook, but it will still taste good when used to follow this recipe.

Can I Cook It in the Instant Pot?

If you do not want to make the shrimp and broccoli in a skillet, it is a meal that you can make in the Instant Pot. You would still need to add a bit of olive oil into the Instant Pot to sauté your broccoli, getting it to turn as crispy as you like it. Both the shrimp and broccoli may cook a bit faster when you use the Instant Pot instead of the skillet.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon ginger powder
  • 2 tablespoons garlic minced
  • ¼ teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1 pound large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 2 cups broccoli floret
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Sea salt
  • Black pepper

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, add honey, Worcestershire sauce, ginger, garlic, chili flakes and shrimps. Toss and marinade for 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
  • Heat a nonstick skillet on high heat. Add olive oil and cook broccoli to your liking. I prefer them fragrant and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside on a plate.
  • Put the skillet back on medium heat and melt butter in it. Add shrimps and cook until nicely pink on both sides. About 2 minutes each side.
  • Transfer broccoli back in the skillet with the shrimps and butter. Adjust taste and stir until heated through.
  • Serve with rice or pasta.
