Ingredients Needed for the Best Way to Dye Eggs for Easter
- Boiled Eggs – Hard-cooked eggs provide the perfect canvas to create beautiful tie dye masterpieces.
- Coffee Filters – These filters act as a protective barrier between your egg and the color, allowing for even absorption and optimal results.
- Water Based Food Coloring – Add just a few drops of this liquid dye to your eggs to create vibrant, eye-catching designs.
- Rubber Bands – Experiment with different shapes, sizes, and patterns by wrapping rubber bands around your eggs before dyeing.
- Paper Towels – Have a few on hand to clean up any accidental spills or drips while you work.
- Rubber Gloves (optional) – Wear gloves while dying your eggs to avoid staining your hands or clothes.
How to Tie Dye Easter Eggs
- Place one egg in the middle of one coffee filter and wrap it tightly, bringing the excess coffee filter to the tip of the egg and securing it with a rubber band.
- Get your food coloring and start with one color, putting one drop in random spots around the egg. Do this with as many colors as you like, however, I tend to use 4 different colors, the basic red, green, blue, and yellow is what I used for this recipe. Do this until the coffee filter around the egg is mostly filled with food coloring. It spreads, so a little goes a long way.
- Leave the eggs to sit for 5 minutes,
- Using rubber gloves if desired, gently unwrap the eggs and pat them dry with a paper towel.
- Set them back in the egg carton to dry for about 5 minutes. Enjoy!
Tips for Dying Easter Eggs with Coffee Filters
1. Use the Right Supplies – To achieve the best results, you’ll want to make sure you have all of the necessary supplies, including boiled eggs, coffee filters, water-based food coloring, rubber bands and paper towels.
2. Wrap Eggs in Coffee Filters – Before you start dyeing your eggs, wrap each egg tightly in a coffee filter and secure it with a rubber band. This will help ensure even absorption of the colors that you choose.
3. Add Some Color – When you’re ready to begin coloring your eggs, use droppers or paintbrushes to add small amounts of liquid food coloring directly onto the filters. For more vibrant colors, try mixing several different shades together.
4. Let It Set – Allow your tie dyed Easter eggs to sit undisturbed for at least 15 minutes before carefully removing the filters. This will give them plenty of time to soak up the colors.
5. Rinse & Dry – Once they’ve had time to set, carefully remove the coffee filters and rinse your eggs gently under cold water before drying them off with paper towels.
