FAQ
What kind of noodles work best for slow cooker chicken and noodles?
Egg noodles are the classic choice and work best here. They hold up well, stay tender without turning mushy, and soak up the sauce beautifully. Wide or extra-wide egg noodles are especially good for that hearty, old-fashioned feel.
Can I use frozen chicken?
Yes, you can use frozen chicken breasts or thighs, but make sure they fully cook and shred easily before adding the noodles. Cooking time may increase slightly, so always check that the chicken reaches a safe internal temperature before shredding.
How do I keep the noodles from getting too soft?
The key is adding the noodles toward the end of cooking. Once they go in, you only need enough time for them to become tender. Overcooking the noodles will make them overly soft, so keep an eye on them and stir occasionally.
Can I make this recipe thicker or creamier?
If you prefer a thicker texture, let the slow cooker sit uncovered for a short time after the noodles finish cooking. You can also stir in a little extra cream or a small slurry of cornstarch and broth if needed.
Can I add vegetables to this recipe?
Absolutely. Peas, carrots, or even a bit of celery work well. If using firmer vegetables, add them earlier with the chicken so they have time to soften. Frozen peas are best stirred in at the very end.
How should leftovers be stored?
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. The noodles will continue to absorb liquid, so you may want to add a splash of broth or milk when reheating.
Can this be frozen?
This dish is best enjoyed fresh or refrigerated. Freezing can change the texture of the noodles and sauce, making it less creamy once thawed.
Quick, easy and tastes like comfort food at its best! This recipe was SURPRISINGLY delicious to my family considering its simplicity. My husband loved it, and even asked that it be added to our “regular rotation”!
Add in some veggies of your choice! I have added green beans and peas before- sometimes even corn- it adds to its heartiness!
Every time I make it, I remember how good it is. It is real homestyle comfort food. Thick and creamy and comes out perfect every single time. It is great for a pot-luck dinners or even to take to a sick friend!
I have also tried doing this recipe with a fresh bought rotisserie chicken from the deli counter at the grocery store and stripped all the meat off of it and it was outstanding as well!
Once you try this recipe it is sure to be a huge hit!

Great recipe-I’ve been making it over the years and adjusting. I add more garlic powder and mushrooms, and add frozen peas when it’s time to make the noodles.
