Why You Will Love This Recipe
This Cheesy Beefy Baked Spaghetti is the definition of comfort food done right. It is hearty, saucy, and layered with so much melted mozzarella that every bite pulls into those irresistible cheesy strands everyone secretly hopes for. If you love lasagna but want something a little easier and more weeknight friendly, this is your recipe.
It is incredibly simple to put together. There is no complicated layering technique or fussy steps. You cook the pasta, make a flavorful beef sauce, toss everything together, layer it up, and let the oven do the magic. It feels homemade and classic without being overwhelming.
It feeds a crowd without stretching your budget. One 9×13 pan serves six to eight people comfortably, which makes it perfect for family dinners, potlucks, or even meal prep for the week. The leftovers reheat beautifully and taste just as good the next day.
The texture is unbeatable. The egg and butter in the pasta give it structure so it slices nicely, while the cottage cheese or ricotta keeps it creamy and rich. Then you get that golden bubbly top layer of mozzarella that seals everything together.
Most importantly, it is the kind of dinner that brings everyone to the table fast. It is familiar, cozy, and guaranteed to get requests for seconds. Once you make it, it becomes one of those dependable recipes you keep in your back pocket for whenever you need something comforting and crowd pleasing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use ricotta instead of cottage cheese?
Yes, absolutely. Ricotta gives a smoother, creamier texture and a slightly richer flavor. Cottage cheese creates a lighter, more textured layer. Either option works wonderfully.
Can I make this ahead of time?
Yes. You can assemble the entire dish, cover it tightly, and refrigerate it up to 24 hours before baking. When ready to cook, allow it to sit at room temperature for about 20 to 30 minutes, then bake as directed. You may need to add a few extra minutes of baking time.
Can I freeze Cheesy Beefy Baked Spaghetti?
Yes. Assemble it in a freezer safe dish, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and foil, and freeze for up to three months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before baking. You can also freeze individual portions for easy reheating.
Why are there eggs in the pasta mixture?
The eggs help bind the pasta together so the baked spaghetti holds its layers when sliced. It gives you that beautiful, structured serving instead of a loose scoop.
Can I add vegetables to this recipe?
Definitely. Finely chopped bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach can be added to the meat sauce for extra flavor and nutrition.
How do I keep it from drying out?
Make sure the pasta is not overcooked before baking and keep it covered for the first part of baking. Letting it rest after baking also helps redistribute moisture.
Can I use a different cheese blend?
Yes. While mozzarella gives that classic stretchy melt, you can mix in provolone, Parmesan, or even a little cheddar for added flavor depth.
How long should it rest before serving?
Letting it rest 10 to 15 minutes is important. This helps the layers set and makes slicing much easier.
Ingredient Breakdown
Spaghetti Noodles
Classic spaghetti gives this dish its hearty, comforting base. Cooking it just to al dente is key since it will continue to soften while baking in the oven. You want tender, not mushy.
Ground Beef
This brings the rich, savory flavor that makes the dish truly satisfying. An 80/20 blend works beautifully for flavor, but you can use leaner beef if preferred. Just be sure to drain excess grease.
Onion
Finely chopped onion adds depth and a subtle sweetness to the meat sauce. It softens as it cooks and blends right into the layers.
Garlic
Fresh minced garlic gives the sauce that warm, aromatic boost that makes everything taste homemade and cozy.
Dried Parsley and Dried Basil
These herbs round out the sauce with classic Italian flavor. They may seem simple, but they make a big difference in giving the dish that familiar baked spaghetti taste.
Meatless Pasta Sauce
Using a jarred sauce keeps this recipe quick and weeknight friendly. Since you are adding seasoned beef, the meatless version balances everything perfectly.
Eggs
The slightly beaten eggs are mixed into the pasta layer. This helps bind everything together so the baked spaghetti slices beautifully and holds its shape.
Salt, Onion Powder, and Black Pepper
Simple seasonings that enhance the overall flavor without overpowering the dish.
Butter
Melted butter tossed with the pasta adds richness and keeps the noodles from drying out during baking.
Mozzarella Cheese
Five cups may sound like a lot, but this is what creates those irresistible, gooey layers and that golden, bubbly top. Use freshly shredded if you want the best melt.
Cottage Cheese or Ricotta
This creamy layer adds moisture and a subtle tang. Small curd cottage cheese gives a lighter texture, while ricotta creates a smoother, more traditional lasagna style feel. Both work beautifully.
It truly is a 5 star recipe!
1. it’s easy to put together
2. it uses readily available ingredients
3. it is easy to modify, and it tastes incredible!
