Recipe for Rum Balls Ingredients

If you want to know how to make Rum Balls, be sure to gather the following ingredients to get started:

  • Vanilla Wafers – Crush your wafers down into small pieces.
  • Ground Pecans – Use a food processor to grind your pecans down into tiny pieces.
  • Powdered Sugar – Add a naturally sweet and flavorful taste to these balls with a bit of powdered sugar.
  • Spiced Rum – The rum really adds such a unique and distinct taste to these sweet balls.
  • Butter – Grab some salted butter and allow it to sit out to reach room temperature before you use it.

You’ll need a few other ingredients, such as ground walnuts, cocoa, honey, and vanilla. If you have these ingredients, you’re good to go, and you’ll be ready to make the most delicious Rum Balls you’ve ever tasted.

Rum Balls Variations

  • You can use any other cookie if you don’t have Nilla Wafers. You’re crushing the cookie into pieces before combining it with the other ingredients.
  • Do you like coconut? If so, you can add some shredded coconut to these Rum Balls. It will enhance the flavor even more. Toasted or regular shredded coconut would go great with the other ingredients.
  • Some people like to add sprinkles to these balls. If you want to get festive, you can use some holiday-themed sprinkles!

Rum Balls Recipe Notes

  • You can replace spiced rum with traditional rum. It depends on what you like. If you don’t have spiced rum, simply use the regular kind.
  • Corn syrup is an alternative for the honey in this recipe. If you’re not big on honey, you can replace it with corn syrup.
  • Don’t have walnuts? Not a problem! Just use extra pecans. The same thing goes for pecans. If you only have walnuts, you can just double it up instead of worrying about going out and getting the pecans for the recipe.

FAQs

What’s the best way to scoop the cookie dough balls out?

I’d recommend using a cookie scoop to ensure that each ball is about the same size. However, you can use a regular spoon if you don’t have a cookie spoon, and it will work just fine.

Can I roll these balls in anything I like?

Absolutely. You can get creative and roll them in your favorite ingredients. For example, you might want to use coarse sugar, sprinkles, more chopped nuts, or anything else you personally like.

How long does it take to prep these balls?

It should only take about 15 minutes for you to prepare these ingredients and assemble your Rum Balls.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c crushed vanilla wafers
  • 1 c ground pecans
  • 2/3 c powdered sugar
  • 1/4 c ground walnuts
  • 3 Tbs cocoa
  • 1/3 c spiced rum
  • 2 Tbs honey
  • 1 Tbs salted butter room temp
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • Cocoa powdered sugar or finely chopped pecans for rolling

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl combine crushed wafers, pecans, powdered sugar, walnuts and cocoa. Set aside. In a separate medium sized mixing bowl whisk together rum, honey, salted butter and vanilla. Once well combined, add to the dry mixture. Use a fork to combine the mixture very well, until the dry ingredients are fully saturated.
  • Use a melon baller or a small cookie scoop to scoop out 1 Tbsp. sized balls, until all of the mixture has been used. Roll each dough ball in between your hands to make them smooth. Place each topping you have for rolling in separate bowls, then roll the balls though the cocoa, powdered sugar or pecans to finish. Ready to serve and eat immediately.

I just made these and they turned out pretty good. Just wasn’t sure about the cocoa.
