This is one of those recipes that takes everything nostalgic about childhood and wraps it up into one pan. They’ve got that signature sticky-sweet krispy base, but with a double hit of marshmallow, crushed Golden Grahams, and real Hershey bar pieces melted on top. You just can’t go wrong here.

What Are These Krispie Treats Exactly?

These S’mores Rice Krispie Treats are a twist on the classic dessert bar — combining crispy rice cereal with crushed Golden Grahams (for that graham cracker flavor), melted marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, and fun-size Hershey bars pressed right on top. You get all the best parts of a traditional s’more — gooey, chocolatey, toasty flavor — in an easy-to-make, easy-to-serve square.

They’re chewy, crunchy, sticky in all the right ways, and loaded with familiar flavors everyone loves.

Campfire Cravings Without the Campfire

These S’mores Rice Krispie Treats deliver all the gooey, chocolate-marshmallow nostalgia of a campfire classic—no flames required! Whether it’s rainy, cold, or you just don’t feel like building a fire, this no-bake dessert satisfies that unmistakable craving for s’mores anytime, anywhere. It’s the perfect way to enjoy a taste of summer indoors, year-round! Who doesn’t love no campfire s’mores?!

These bars are also super fun for kids to help make. My little ones love pressing the marshmallow mixture into the pan (with sprayed hands, of course!) and laying out the Hershey bars like tiles. It’s a simple way to get them in the kitchen, and unlike actual s’mores, there’s no fire risk or sticky mess all over their faces and clothes. It’s become one of our go-to treats for rainy days or long weekends when we’re craving something sweet and fun to make together.

When to Serve

These are a hit for:

  • Summer parties, BBQs, and backyard bonfires
  • Birthday parties or school events (no baking, no fuss)
  • Holiday trays or cookie swaps — they stand out among the rest
  • Movie nights and sleepovers
  • Any time you want s’mores flavor without starting a fire

They also make a great make-ahead dessert — just cut into squares and stack ‘em up on a platter when ready to serve.

Ingredient Breakdown – What You’ll Need

Every bite of these S’mores Rice Krispie Treats delivers nostalgic, gooey perfection—and it all starts with just a few pantry staples. Let’s break it down:

  • Mini Marshmallows – These are the base of the gooey, sticky magic. You’ll melt most for binding the treats and fold in extra whole ones for that classic soft, chewy texture.
Pro Tip: Always use fresh marshmallows for the best melt and fluff.
  • Rice Krispies Cereal – The iconic crispy rice cereal brings that light, airy crunch and balances the richness of the chocolate and marshmallow.
Don’t substitute with off-brand cereals unless you’re sure they hold their crunch well.
  • Crushed Graham Crackers or Golden Grahams Cereal – This is where the s’mores flavor shines! Choose your style—crushed graham crackers for a classic taste or Golden Grahams for a fun cereal vibe with extra crunch.
Either way, this layer brings in that signature graham flavor every good s’more needs.
  • Semi-Sweet or Milk Chocolate Chunks/Chips – You can use chunks, chips, or even chop up a few Hershey bars to bring in that campfire authenticity. The chocolate melts slightly into the warm mixture, giving those gooey, melt-in-your-mouth bites.
Want a richer flavor? Use dark chocolate!
  • Butter – Melted with the marshmallows, this adds richness and flavor to the entire bar. Salted butter is great for balancing sweetness, but unsalted works if that’s what you have on hand.
Make sure to fully melt before adding the marshmallows for the smoothest blend.
  • Vanilla Extract (Optional but Recommended) – A splash of vanilla deepens the marshmallow flavor and gives the whole treat a more rounded, homemade bakery feel.
Just a teaspoon makes a difference!

Why I Love These

These bars are so fast to make — five minutes of prep and a single pot is all you need. You melt everything in one big pot, mix in the cereals and marshmallows, and press it all into a pan. The Hershey bars on top are the final touch that makes them feel like a full s’mores moment — without burning your fingers or ending up covered in sticky marshmallow.

And since you’re using both crispy rice cereal and Golden Grahams, the texture is perfect: soft and chewy, with a little crunch and plenty of gooey pockets throughout. The added vanilla and chocolate chips just take it over the top.

If you really want to level these up, try lightly toasting the marshmallows on top with a kitchen torch before serving. It gives them that authentic roasted flavor and golden-brown finish — people go nuts over the look and taste. You could even swap out the Hershey bars for peanut butter cups or chopped caramel squares if you want to put your own spin on them. This recipe is super flexible and honestly, kind of dangerous once you realize how many different ways you can play with it.

FAQ

Can I use regular size marshmallows instead of mini?

Yes, just chop them up a bit or make sure they melt fully in the butter. Minis melt faster and blend more evenly, which is why they’re ideal here.

Can I use chocolate chips instead of Hershey bars on top?

Definitely! Mini chocolate chips work great, but the Hershey bars give it that classic s’mores flavor and nostalgic look. You can use both!

Do I need to bake these?

Nope — totally no-bake! Just let them set for about 15–20 minutes at room temp before slicing.

How do I keep them from sticking to the pan?

Use parchment paper and a light coat of nonstick spray. Also spray your hands or spatula when pressing them into the pan — it makes shaping them much easier.

Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes — they keep well for 2–3 days at room temp. Store in an airtight container for best freshness. Avoid refrigerating, as it can dry them out and make the texture too firm.

Can I freeze them?

Technically yes, but the texture changes slightly. If you freeze, wrap tightly and thaw at room temperature before serving.

Can I double the batch?

Absolutely — just use a larger sheet pan and adjust the topping amounts to taste. These are great for a crowd.

Variations

Peanut Butter S’mores Bars – Add ½ cup of creamy peanut butter to the melted butter and marshmallow mixture for a nutty twist that pairs perfectly with the chocolate.

S’mores Cookie Krispies – Swap the crispy rice cereal for crushed graham cracker cereal and crushed chocolate chip cookies for a hybrid dessert bar with even more crunch.

Campfire Style – Use a kitchen torch to lightly toast the top layer of marshmallows after pressing everything into the pan. It gives the bars that real roasted s’more flavor and a golden-brown finish.

Holiday S’mores – Press in colored mini marshmallows or drizzle melted white chocolate over the top for seasonal flair. Red and green sprinkles work great for Christmas, while pastel marshmallows are perfect for Easter.

Gluten-Free Version – Use certified gluten-free crispy rice cereal and graham-style cereal. Make sure your chocolate and marshmallows are gluten-free as well (many brands are!).

Storage and Serving Tips

If you’re serving these at a party or packing them up for later, let them cool completely before slicing. They cut best with a sharp, lightly greased knife, and you can even wrap individual bars in wax paper or parchment for easy grab-and-go treats. I love stacking them in a bakery box or airtight container with a little parchment between layers — they stay soft, chewy, and totally s’mores-worthy for up to 3 days at room temp (if they last that long!).
