-

White Bread Ingredients Needed
When preparing the bread from scratch, you need a few simple ingredients to put it all together, such as:
-
Granulated Sugar– Although you’re adding some sugar to this recipe, it’s not too much and it won’t leave a sugary taste behind.
-
Warm Water – You’ll need to combine the warm water with the yeast and other ingredients to prepare your bread dough.
-
Honey – The addition of honey is an excellent way to add a slight touch of natural sweetness to this bread.
-
Active Dry Yeast – Be sure to have your yeast to get this bread to rise and bake to perfection.
-
Bread Flour – Of course, you’re going to need bread flour because it has more gluten and will help the bread rise even better.
In addition to these ingredients, you need milk, butter, and salt to prepare this Amish-style homemade bread.
Do I have to use honey in this recipe?
No, you don’t have to use honey. While it adds a light, natural touch of sweetness to this bread, you can always use more sugar and skip the honey altogether, which comes in handy when you don’t have honey at home.
Can I add other ingredients to this bread?
Absolutely. If you’d like to make a savory version of this bread, be sure to add some of your favorite herbs and spices to it. You can even add garlic, olives, and shredded cheese to the bread if you want.
What tastes best on this bread?
You can add anything that you want to this bread. Butter is one great thing to spread on a slice of this bread. However, you can use it to make sandwiches, add peanut butter and jelly to it, or even dip it in some of your favorite foods.
What should I do if I don’t have a stand mixer?
If you don’t have a stand mixer, feel free to knead this dough by hand. It may take a bit longer, but it will work. You will need to knead the dough for around 15 minutes to achieve the best results.
Recipe Notes
-
If you want to make cinnamon rolls or sticky buns, feel free to roll this dough out and use it for that purpose!
-
When using honey in this bread, it’s best to use raw, organic honey to get the best taste for the bread.
-
Feel free to test out different versions of this bread by adding different ingredients, including sweet and savory options, such as cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, garlic powder, onion powder, and more. You can get creative with it.
How to Store the White Bread
After you’ve prepared the white bread, you need to know how to store it. It’s best to place it in an airtight container and put it in the fridge to keep it fresh for up to five days. Of course, you can always freeze it. If you’d prefer to freeze the bread, put it in an airtight container and place it in the freezer to keep it fresh for up to three months.
Extra Tips:
1. You can also make this into a savory bread with herbs, garlic and olives.
2. You can roll these out and make cinnamon rolls or sticky buns.
3. Use a stand mixer for easier kneading.
4. You can knead by hand if you don’t have a stand mixer, you will need to knead for about 15 minutes.
This recipe is one of my all time favorite recipes- its also been called amish friendship bread!
I have also used this recipe to make mini muffins! They taste amazing slathered in butter! just evenly add the dough into muffin tins. Fill only ⅓ of the way full. Bake 350f degrees for 25 min – check them for doneness with a toothpick.
These are all images of the cinnamon sugar version! Its so delicious!
