Ingredients I Used
Peanut Butter – I used creamy peanut butter for the base of the filling. Any brand will work, but I do recommend using quality.
Chocolate – For the cups, I used white chocolate and chocolate almond bark for the base of the cups. The almond bark sets up firmly and is a mess-free chocolate to work with.
Butter – Real butter is needed for this recipe. It goes into the filling to help add flavor and works on that creamy peanut butter texture.
Powdered Sugar – The powdered sugar helps to create the perfect peanut butter filling.
Sprinkles – Reach for festive sprinkles to top the chocolate on top of each cup! Adds color and crunch.
Variations To Recipe
Chocolate – You can use bar chocolate, chocolate chips, etc. If you do that route then add a little shortening or coconut oil to help the chocolate set up firmly.
Peanut Butter or Nut Butter – You are more than welcome to use crunchy peanut butter if you want. Or even swap the peanut butter out with nut butter. Just know nut butter is a bit wetter than peanut butter so you might add more powdered sugar to the mix.
Sugar-Free – Reach for sugar-free ingredients to make sugar-free peanut butter cups. This is a great option for you.
Toppings – You can add on crushed cookies, chopped candy, chopped nuts, and more. Feel free to pick and choose whatever you want to add on top of the peanut butter cups.
Storing
Room Temperature – Store the peanut butter cups in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 weeks. Just make sure the cups are fully cooled before you store them.
Freeze – Now you can also freeze your peanut butter Christmas cups. Just store it in a freezer bag or freezer container. They will store for 3-4 months. Then eat straight from the freezer or let them thaw first.
Tips for Making Peanut Butter Cups
Cupcake Liners
Using a cupcake liner helps to make removing the peanut butter cups out of the muffin tin a breeze. You can use any color or style of cupcake liners.
Melting Chocolate
Go right ahead and melt the chocolate low and slow with a double boiler. Or you can warm it up in the microwave. If you do the microwave make sure to mix it up in between the heating cycle. That way the almond bark doesn’t melt.
Mini Muffin Tin
If you want a smaller version reach for a mini muffin tin instead of a classic size. Then just make smaller-sized cups.
Customize
You can mix in the candies and such in the peanut butter mixture or sprinkle on top of the top coating. Feel free to mix and add in any items you want to elevate the flavor of these peanut butter cups.
