Ingredients Needed
Pasta: I used elbow pasta for this dish, but honestly any medium-sized pasta will work. Bow-tie, rigatoni, penne, etc. Feel free to use any type of pasta you want.
Eggs: The hard-boiled eggs are a big part of this dish. You can buy premade hard-boiled eggs or boil them up real quick.
Vegetables: Diced celery, green onions, and red onions are what I used for the veggies in this pasta dish. You can of course add other veggies in to add more flavor and texture to the pasta.
Mayonnaise: Real mayo is what I opted for but Miracle Whip can be used if you are a fan of the sandwich spread.
Mustard: To add a little zing I used a Dijon mustard to bring a kick.
Sugar: Granulated sugar is used to help balance out the flavors of the dressing. Just a little is needed. If you want sugar free you can opt for a sugar-free substitute.
Apple Cider Vinegar: The vinegar helps to give this dressing that deviled egg flavor. I used APV but you could use a white distilled vinegar.
Spices: Salt, black pepper, and paprika are what I used for flavoring the dressing a bit more.
Serving Suggestions
- Pair your salad with some grilled burgers or your famous steak for a fun outdoor party food spread.
- Or stay inside and pair it with some meatloaf or even baked chicken for a simple dinner for the whole family to enjoy.
- This is a cold pasta salad so make sure to keep the dish stored in the fridge until you are serving it up. I find this is a perfect potluck dish.
Storing
Store any of the pasta you do not eat right away in an airtight container. It will store in the fridge for 3-4 days. When you go to dish it up, make sure to stir it up a bit, as the pasta can dry out just a bit.
Due to the ingredients, this is a dish that can’t be frozen.
Tips For Making Pasta Salad
Season Pasta Water
When you are boiling water to cook your pasta, always season the water with a little salt. I picked up salt rocks that you can add to the water for a few minutes and it works great as well.
Al Dente Pasta
Cook your pasta until it is al dente. Then drain, and then run the pasta under cold water to stop the cooking process. Otherwise, it can cause your pasta to become mushy and soft.
Finely Chop Vegetables
Uniformly finely chop the veggies so they mix well with the other ingredients. You will also find that if you finely chop it will incorporate best and have a better flavor when you take a bite.
Chill Before Serving
I do recommend chilling your pasta for at least 30 minutes to an hour before you go to serve it up. This is going to help blend the flavors together, for a flavorful salad.
Common Questions Asked
How can I make Deviled Egg Pasta Salad spicy?
Feel free to add in some cayenne pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, or even a few splashes of hot sauce to the dressing.
Can I make a Deviled Egg Pasta Salad without mayonnaise?
Swap the mayonnaise with a plain Greek yogurt to create a mayo-free pasta salad. This will add protein and reduce the calories of the dish.
Is Deviled Egg Pasta Salad safe to leave out at room temperature during a picnic or party?
You only want to leave the pasta salad out for up to 2 hours at room temperature. If you allow it to stay out longer it can reach an unsafe temperature and bacteria can begin to grow and result in making people sick. So ensure you only have it out for a while while eating, and then refrigerate once you are done eating.
