Recipe Notes & Tips
- While this pie has a slightly sour taste, it’s not too overpowering. However, if you’re not too big on sour things, you can use half a packet of each type of Kool-Aid instead of the full packet. You’ll still get the flavor without all the sourness.
- You’ll need to place your pie in the freezer for each color. If you fail to do so, the colors will begin bleeding into one another, creating a bit of a mess that you’re going to want to avoid.
- Feel free to use any specific flavors of Kool-Aid that you prefer. However, make sure that the colors are going to look good together to give this treat a bright, bold, and colorful appearance.
How to Store Your Kool Aid Pie
After preparing this layered pie, cover it or place it in a large airtight container, sealing it with a lid and placing it in the fridge or freezer to keep it fresh. If you store it in the freezer, you can keep it there for up to three months before you’d need to remove it and eat it, which means you can make this dessert days, weeks, or even months in advance and serve it when you want it. If you’re keeping it in the fridge, this layered pie lasts for up to five days.
Common Questions
What should I do if I don’t have a springform pan?
If you don’t have the pan needed to prepare this pie, you can always use two colors instead of all the other colors and make the dessert in a pie dish as an alternative.
What can I do if the yellow shade looks too light?
If you want a brighter, bolder shade of yellow, add a bit of yellow food dye to it. The food dye will help bring out that color even more to make your pie look better.
Do I have to use graham crackers for the crust?
Not at all. If you don’t want to use graham crackers, you can use different types of cookies, such as Nilla Wafers or Oreos. Use what you like to make a delicious, sweet crust.
Can I use a pre-made pie crust?
Absolutely. If you’re looking for a way to save some time while still making a delicious, sweet pie for your family to enjoy on Easter, it’s fine to use a pre-made pie crust.

Do I need to keep in the freezer until I serve it?
Beautiful pie!

The pie looks fabulous! I saw it about a month ago and knew I had to make it for Easter. The only thing I changed was that I combined all the Cool Whip and sweetened condensed milk in a large bowl, then evenly divided it into 4 bowls. Then I mixed in the different Kool Aids as directed. It worked perfectly.
