- Fun and easy Halloween-themed treat to serve up for your Halloween bash.

Ingredients Needed
Jello – I used green apple jello for this recipe. But feel free to reach for any green-colored jello. Or opt for a different colored jello.
Water – Filtered water is best when making these jello shots.
Vodka – Vodka is what I used for booze. But if you want to make kid-friendly then swap with cold water.
Food Coloring – For the ghost eyes I used black food coloring. This is of course optional.
Non-Stick Cooking Spray – Prevent your ghost jello shots from getting stuck in the silicone ghost mold. Use your favorite type of nonstick spray.
Variations To Recipe
Color – You can use any color or flavor of jello you would like. Feel free to do a mix of flavors to decorate your serving platter even more. Think dark purple, green, orange, or even red or yellow. All would be great colors.
White Ghost – Use a packet of unflavored gelatin and then 1/2 cup of sweetened condensed milk to make these a white creamy ghost. Then if you want flavor you can use a flavor extract so it keeps the color white.
Eyes – So I used food coloring to make the ghost eyes. You could easily swap that with a black frosting. You can buy them in tubes at the grocery store in the baking aisle. Or add frosting and then place googly eyes for a silly twist.
Glow in the Dark – Did you know if you replace the water in the recipe with tonic water it will cause your jello to glow in the dark? I learned this trick years ago, and it is a fun one!
Alcohol – Consider adding in rum, vodka, or another type of alcohol. Feel free to play around with flavored vodka to enhance the flavor. Or leave it out if you don’t want an alcoholic jello shot.
Pro Tips
- Spray your molds with cooking spray to prevent your jello from sticking inside or tearing the jello once it is set up.
- Ensure you use boiling water and fully stir to dissolve the jello before you move on to the next step.
- Cold vodka or cold water is great for mixing into the hot gelatin mixture.
- Carefully pour your jello into the molds. Just leave a little bit under the top so you don’t spill when you transfer to the fridge.
- I like to place my molds on a cooking tray that way it makes it easy for transporting to the fridge.
- Don’t freeze the jello shots as it will affect the texture. If you want to speed up the setting of jello you can freeze for a max of 30 minutes. Then the rest of the time needs to be in the fridge.
- Make as many or as few of the jello shots as you would like.
- Allow at least a minimum of 4 hours for the jello to be fully set. If you can go 6 hours even better.
Storing
Place any of the jello ghosts in the fridge in a sealed container. You have to be careful as the shots can take on odors in your fridge. So making sure it is in an airtight container is going to give you the best chance of not picking up odors in your fridge from other food and drinks.
The shots will store for up to 5-7 days in the fridge. They are best consumed within the first two days of being made.

In general, you can expect each person to consume 4-6 jello shots. Now if you have a lot of other drink options or snacks they might eat a few less.
How many jello shots does one box of jello make?
You can expect that a box of 3.9 ounces of jello will make around 10-12 regular-sized jello shots. Since this uses a ghost mold I found I get around 8-10 shots since these are a bit bigger than a traditional cup jello shot.
Despite their intricate appearance, Halloween ghost-shaped jello shots are surprisingly simple to make. With just a few ingredients, you can create a frightful treat that avoids unnecessary stress in the kitchen.
How many jello shots will get you drunk?
Generally 4 jello shots equal one shot of booze. So take that into consideration. Most of the time you will find jello shots are not going to get you drunk per say.
Do jello shots go bad?
Yes, jello shots can go bad like anything else. You will find if you leave them out at room temperature they will begin to break down after about an hour. Or if they sit for too many days in the fridge they will break down as well and the jello will change in texture.
