Ingredients for the Recipe for Marry Me Chicken

Before you can make the most incredible chicken you’ve ever tasted, you will need the following ingredients:

  • Chicken Breast – Slice some boneless, skinless chicken breast into thin filets.
  • Olive Oil – Use a bit of olive oil for heating your chicken in the skillet. It adds a great flavor and helps the chicken get slightly crisp on both sides.
  • Butter – Enhance the taste of this dish with two tablespoons of butter. Any brand will work for this recipe.
  • Sun Dried Tomatoes – Soak your tomatoes in hot water for roughly 30 minutes and chop them into pieces.
  • Garlic Cloves – Start mincing around four cloves of garlic for that fresh garlicky taste that they will bring to this dish.
  • Heavy Cream – Use two cups of heavy cream to make this Marry Me Chicken recipe super creamy and delicious.
  • Red Pepper Flakes – A bit of red pepper flakes add a slight touch of spice to this dish without making it too spicy.
  • Parmesan Cheese – Use a cup of shredded parmesan cheese to enhance the flavor of your Marry Me Chicken even further.

You will also need thyme, oregano, salt, pepper, and a handful of fresh basil.

Marry Me Chicken Recipe Notes

  • You can use pre-shredded parmesan cheese or you can grate a fresh piece of parmesan cheese and add it to this recipe, whichever you prefer.
  • If you want to add more good-for-you ingredients to this dish, consider tossing in a handful or two of spinach with the sun dried tomatoes, chicken, heavy cream, and other ingredients.
  • Heavy cream is an important ingredient in this recipe. If you don’t have it, you can make it yourself by melting ¼ stick of butter in a pot and then adding milk to it. However, I would make sure to have heavy cream on hand to make this delicious meal.

Tasty Chicken FAQs

How can I make this dish taste a bit spicier?

If you would like to make a spicier version of the Marry Me Chicken, simply add more red pepper flakes into the mixture. You can also sprinkle a bit of cayenne pepper into the pot with your chicken and heavy cream for added heat.

Can I use chicken thighs for this recipe?

Although you can use chicken thighs as a last minute substitute, I would recommend sticking with chicken breast for this recipe because it tastes better with the other ingredients.

Can I use margarine instead of butter?

Absolutely. If you don’t have butter on hand but you have some margarine, feel free to use that as a replacement for the butter.

You can store your leftovers in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or in the oven, you will need to add a splash of water or chicken broth to thin out the sauce as it will thicken in the cold fridge.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken breast sliced into ½-inch thick fillets
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 oz sundried tomatoes soaked in hot water for 30 minutes and chopped
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • ½ tsp ground pepper
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • ½ dry thyme
  • ½ tsp dry oregano
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • A handful of fresh basil

Instructions

  • Heat a tbsp of olive oil in an iron cast or heavy bottom skillet over medium heat—season chicken fillets with salt. Then cook chicken fillets from both sides until chicken is cooked through but still juicy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Place cooked chicken on a plate and cover it.
  • Add butter to the previously used skillet and reduce heat to a minimum. Sauté minced garlic with soaked and chopped tomatoes for 2 minutes or until fragrant. Then add heavy cream, dry thyme, dry oregano, red pepper flakes, and ground pepper. Stir to combine ingredients and simmer for 5 minutes. Incorporate cooked chicken and simmer for 7-8 minutes for the chicken to tender.
  • Fold in parmesan cheese and fresh basil. Stir to combine. Once cheese melts, remove from heat.
  • Serve warm with fresh pasta or mashed potato.
