Tips for Success

Serving Tray

Reach for a flat surface like a serving tray or board. I used a wooden board but you can use any type of tray. Just make sure it is large enough to hold the items.

Make Snowman First

Making the snowman first so it is fully in the center of the tray is key. Then you will use the other ingredients to place around the cheese rounds to fill in the rest of the board.

Cheese for Body

I used two Brie rolls, and then mozzarella for the head. Feel free to try out different cheese varieties. Now you could even do a cheese dip for one of the circles if you want. Camembert cheese is a great one to use.

Arranging Food

Work in sections and arrange food in different areas on the board. From cured meats, fruits, nuts, etc. We love using fresh fruits and savory items so it creates a variety of options.

Spreads and Dipping Sauces

In little jars, you can add dipping sauces or spreads for adding to the crackers and other items. From mustard, cranberry sauce, etc. Feel free to pick and choose what you prefer.

Labels

Feel free to use labels to mark what the foods are. You can buy little labels to place around the tray if you want. This is great to do if you have guests who have allergies to foods.

Chilled

You want to make sure the ingredients are refrigerated until right before serving. Keep it in a covered container or wrap it in plastic wrap or foil. Then when you are ready to serve unwrap and serve.

Storing

If you do not eat all your appetizer platter, simply take food place it in a sealed container, and store it in the fridge. Or you can just cover the platter and store it that way if you would like. The items will last around 3-5 days depending on what it is. The meat will be one of the firsts to go bad.

I prefer to store the meat in one container, fruit in another, etc. That way the flavors don’t mix too much as it sits in the fridge. Feel free to store it as you would like.

FAQs

How do I select cheeses for a charcuterie board?

Since we are making a snowman-shaped board, I recommend looking for circle-shaped cheese or the base of the snowman. Then the rest of the cheese and sliced cheese work since you are using a cookie cutter.

What is the ideal serving temperature for charcuterie items?

You will serve the board chilled but know that if it is served at room temperature it will allow the cured meat and brie cheese to shine a bit more in flavor. Just don’t allow it to sit at room temperature for too long.

How do I pair wine with charcuterie?

Red wines, Merlot, and Pinot Noir are great red wines. For a white wine, you can reach for a Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay to go with the meat cheese, and fruit. Or reach for your favorite sparkling wine or champagne.
