Ingredients You Will Need
- Lofthouse Cookies – You can buy the Lofthouse sugar cookies in the bakery section at most grocery stores. Pick any colors of cookies you would like.

Tips for Making Truffles
Flavor of Cookies
Now for making these truffles, you will find you can buy any color or flavor of sugar cookies for this recipe. The key is to make sure they are the Lofthouse style so they are soft and have that creamy frosting. They make the perfect texture for the truffles.
Stand Mixer or Hand Mixer
I find using a mixer helps tremendously in creating that perfectly creamy and light texture of the sugar cookie truffle dough. You can use a spoon for mixing, but make sure you mix long enough to get the right texture.
Cookie Scoop
To create evenly shaped and similar-sized truffles use a cookie scoop. You are more than welcome to make your truffles smaller in size or bigger. The key is to use a scoop so they all look uniform in size.
Dipping Tool
Wilton and other brands have tools you can use for dipping truffles and other items in chocolate. They have slits to help the chocolate drip off. If you don’t have one, a fork is what I recommend to use for dipping.
Shake Off Excess Chocolate
Make sure once you dip your sugar cookie ball in the melted chocolate you shake off the excess chocolate. If you allow it to stay dripping with chocolate when you place it on the parchment paper it will pool up and look a bit messy.
Add Sprinkles After Each Truffle
Make sure to add your sprinkles to each truffle as you go. The chocolate for these is set up pretty quickly so you will find if you wait till all the truffle bites are dipped the chocolate could be hardened on some of the first ones you did.
Lined Baking Tray
I prefer to use a lined baking tray as it makes moving the truffles from one area of the kitchen to another very easy. You don’t have to use a rimmed baking tray, but it is what I recommend to those who make these truffles.
Storing Truffles
Refrigerate the truffles in a sealed container in the fridge for up to a week. These will refrigerate really well and you can eat straight from the fridge.
Now you can also freeze the truffles in a sealed container or freezer bag. Freeze for 2-3 months. Then thaw in the fridge overnight when you want a truffle.
FAQs
Are sugar cookie truffles gluten-free or vegan?
You can make them gluten-free or vegan by using the right sugar cookies. You will find Lofthouse cookies are not gluten-free or vegan-friendly. If you use a different cookie, also reach for a vegan cream cheese replacement as well as vegan chocolate.
Can I add flavorings or extracts to the truffle mixture?
Yes, go right ahead and add in a splash of vanilla extract, almond, orange, lemon, or other extracts. This will help transform the flavors of the sugar cookie balls.
What kind of chocolate should I use for dipping sugar cookie truffles?
You can use chocolate chips, candy melts, or even an almond bark. Just make sure to add in the coconut oil to help cause the chocolate to set up properly. The quality of the chocolate will vary in how the overall flavor of the balls turns out.
