What is a dessert lasagna?

A dessert lasagna is a no-bake dessert with layers of ingredients like a traditional pasta lasagna. You have a crust with graham crackers or cookies and then layers of cream cheese, puddings, pie fillings, etc. Depending on the recipe depends on the layers of each of the indulgent layers.

Ingredients Needed

Cookies: Oreos are the crust of this dessert. The cookies give each bite a crunchy chocolate flavor.

Butter: You need the butter to help the cookies to stick together for a firm and sliceable crust.

Cream Cheese: The cream cheese needs to be at room temperature. This will add a tangy, sweet, thick, and velvety layer.

Powdered Sugar, also called confectioners’ sugar, helps thicken and sweeten the mixture.

Peanut Butter: I recommend creamy peanut butter, but if you prefer, opt for crunchy. This adds tons of rich peanut butter flavor to this dessert.

Pudding: Reach for chocolate instant pudding. You get that creamy and thick pudding layer that helps to balance out the peanut butter.

Milk: Whole milk is best, but if you need to, choose a lower percentage or even a plant-based alternative.

Whipped Cream: You can buy a tub of Cool Whip or make your own. The choice is yours.

Toppings: Mini Reese’s peanut butter cups are chopped up, and chocolate sauce is used to place them on top of the whipped cream.

Variations to Recipe

Here is a mix of ways to change the flavors of this peanut butter Reese’s lasagna.

  • Reach for gluten-free cookies to make a gluten-free dessert.
  • Change the flavor of cookiesโ€”peanut butter, Golden Oreos, etc.
  • Use coconut oil to replace butter, and opt for dairy-free ingredients to make a vegan dessert.
  • Use sugar-free ingredients if you want to reduce the sugar content.
  • Add some layers of chopped peanuts, almonds, or pecans for a crunch.
  • Top with mini chocolate chips and peanut butter chips.
  • Add in a teaspoon of instant espresso to the chocolate pudding layer for a bit of a coffee flavor.
  • Sprinkle the top with Reese’s pieces, mini peanut butter cups, or M&Ms or other candies.
  • Use a cheesecake-flavored pudding, vanilla pudding, or other pudding flavors to change it up.

Tips For Success

Even Layers

It is essential to make sure you do even layers of each ingredient. As you work on each layer, refrigerate the dessert in the fridge. Then pour the mixtures slowly and spread with a light hand so you get defined layers.

Crust

Pack the crust firmly and press it into the pan. Otherwise, when you slice it, it will not hold shape and will fall apart. Using the back of a measuring cup or regular drinking glass is a great option.

Chilling Dessert

Make sure you chill your dessert before serving. The layers need to be firmly set up. Otherwise, it will be more of a gooey mess when you slice into it.

Clean Cuts

If you want nice, clean cuts, start by running your knife under hot water. Then, wipe the blade with a towel and make a clean cut. Then, clean the knife again between each cut. This will give you nice, clean cuts.

What Exactly Is Reeseโ€™s Lasagna?

Think of it like a dessert version of lasagnaโ€”minus the pasta, plus all the good stuff: a crunchy Oreo crust, a smooth and creamy peanut butter cheesecake layer, rich chocolate pudding, fluffy whipped topping, and loads of chopped Reeseโ€™s on top. Each bite hits all the right notes: sweet, salty, chocolatey, and melt-in-your-mouth creamy.

Itโ€™s one of those layered desserts that looks impressive but doesnโ€™t require fancy techniques. Honestly, the hardest part is waiting for it to chill in the fridge before digging in.

Make It Ahead, Serve It Cold

One of the best things about this dessert (aside from how good it tastes) is that you can make it ahead of time. In fact, you should make it ahead. A few hours in the fridgeโ€”or even overnightโ€”lets everything set up just right and makes slicing it a breeze.

Itโ€™s perfect for parties because you can throw it together the day before and pull it out when youโ€™re ready to impress your guests. And trust me, you will impress your guests. This stuff disappears fast.

Serving Tips

  • Slice it up cold for clean, easy pieces.
  • Add a drizzle of warm chocolate sauce right before serving for extra wow-factor.
  • Want to get extra indulgent? Serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.

Whether youโ€™re making it for a birthday, a barbecue, or just because itโ€™s Tuesday and you deserve a treat, this is the kind of dessert that earns repeat requests.

So grab a 9×13 dish, your favorite candy, and a little bit of fridge spaceโ€”youโ€™re about to make everyoneโ€™s new favorite dessert.

Storing Leftovers

This dessert needs to be refrigerated. Once you whip it up, store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Then slice and serve as you like.

You can make this in advance if you like. Feel free to make it 1-2 days before you want to serve it.

What if I don’t have mini Reeseโ€™s peanut butter cups?

Feel free to reach for regular-sized peanut butter cups and cut them into smaller pieces or replace them with other chocolate and peanut butter desserts.

Can I cut the recipe in half?

Yes, if you don’t want to make a full 9×13, reduce the recipe by half and use an 8×8 or 9×9 size pan. Then you will have a smaller portion of the dessert.

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter

  • 16 ounces whipped topping divided
  • 25 mini Reeseโ€™s peanut butter cups chopped
  • Chocolate sauce for drizzling

  • Fold in 8 ounces of the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture until just combined.
  • Spread the peanut butter cream cheese mixture evenly across the top of the cooled crust. Refrigerate while you prepare the next layer.
  • In a medium sized bowl, whisk together the chocolate pudding packets with the cold milk until smooth.
  • Remove the cake from the refrigerator and spread the chocolate pudding layer across the top of the peanut butter layer.
  • Spread the remaining whipped cream over the top of the chocolate pudding layer.
  • Garnish the top of the whipped cream with chopped Reeseโ€™s.
  • Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or overnight, before serving.
  • Drizzle with chocolate sauce, slice and serve, enjoy!
