My Crock Pot Philly cheesesteak dip is a deconstructed Philly cheesesteak made into a creamy dip. You have tender bits of roast beef, pepper, onions, garlic, and of course a variety of melted cheeses for the perfect cheesesteak dip. Pair with salty tortilla chips, and slices of bread, and devour this cheesesteak bite by bite.
This party dip is one that we make for celebrating the new year, football games, or even summer celebrations. This is truly a crockpot dip recipe that can be whipped up and served all year round.
What Is A Philly Cheesesteak Dip?
Essentially it is similar to ingredients used in a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, which is then made with a lot of cheese to make it a creamy hot dip version.
This is a fantastic party dip that gives you all the meat, onions, and peppers but in a party form to serve a crowd.

Ingredients and Variations to Recipe
Beef – I used deli roast beef for this dip recipe. Now you could cook up steak and thinly slice and chop it up. Or you could use leftover steak from the night before. Or the Steak-Ums can be used just precooked the meat fully.
Con Queso – I used a con queso which is a cheesy salsa, that is going to elevate the creamy texture of the dip.
Onion, Garlic, and Peppers – Red bell peppers, garlic, and onions are used to help develop the flavors of the dip. You can use any color of bell peppers. Or add in a can of drained green chiles to alter the flavor a bit.
Cheese – American block cheese that has been diced up is what I used as the base. You of course can use a different variety of cheese.
Cream Cheese – Cream cheese helps richen the dip but also creates that velvety texture that is ultra thick.
Worcestershire Sauce – A splash of this sauce is a must. It is going to deepen the flavors and add almost a smokey flavor.
Salt and Pepper – Season to taste with some salt and pepper to fit your preferences.
Storing Dip
Here is how to store the dip in the fridge and I also share how to make it ahead of time if you want to prep in advance. Due to the dairy you will find it can’t freeze and thaw well so I recommend not freezing.
Make Ahead
Want to make the dip in advance? Whip it up and then once it is fully melted, store in the fridge for 1-2 days. Then when ready to eat reheat in the slow cooker on low, stovetop, or microwave. If the dip is too thick, just add a splash of milk to thin it up.
Refrigerate Leftovers
You can refrigerate any of the dip that does not get eaten right away. It will store for 3-4 days in the fridge when placed in an airtight container. When ready to reheat just place in a pan or plate and warm until all the way heated. Stir during the heat cycle to help prevent a film from developing on top of the cheese.
Other Party Appetizers
Want to pair your dip with more savory and tasty party foods? Here are a few more of my favorite party finger foods that are crowd-approved. Consider pairing this cheese dip with my pizza pinwheels, Big Mac cups, or this gorgeous taco salad trifle.
All of those recipes are appetizers fit for a crowd. I love having different flavors and textures of appetizers so guests can pick and choose between the variations of items served.
Helpful Tips
Optional Liner
You can buy BPA-free crockpot liners that you place in the crockpot before you add any ingredients. This is going to help prevent the cheese and such from sticking in the crockpot and making such a mess. The cleanup will be a breeze with a liner.
Dice Up Meat
Make sure you finely chop up the beef so that it is in smaller pieces and mixes well with the other ingredients in the slow cooker.
Chop Cheese
You want to dice up the cheese or crumble it so that when the cheese begins to melt it is going to be easier and quicker to melt but also distribute through the crockpot.
Stir Well
Make sure that you take the time to stir this dip, even as it cooks if you can. This is going to help get all the ingredients melted together nicely. That way when you dip you get all the flavors of the dip in one bite.
Dippers
You can dip the cheesesteak Philly dip with sliced French bread wedges, pretzels, chips, crisp vegetables, and more. Feel free to pick and cheese any of your favorite dippers for this recipe. I like to have a variety of items so guests can pick and choose what they want.
Serve Hot
This is a hot cheese dip so make sure you keep it in the slow cooker so it stays warm. Otherwise, the dip can begin to set up and firm up as it cools down. Once the cheese dip is fully melted you can turn down the slow cooker to warm.
Saute Veggies
If you want to enhance the flavors you can take your peppers, onions, and garlic and saute in the slow cooker or a skillet on the stove with a small splash of oil. This will offer a richer flavor and help the dip from getting excess water from the vegetables as they cook down in the slow cooker.
FAQs
Can I use a different cut of beef for the dip?
Ribeye, skirt steak, Steak-ums, and more can all be used. You could even reach for ground beef. Just make sure the meat is tender and sliced into smaller pieces and fully cooked.
Can I make this dip in a smaller or larger crockpot?
You can use a smaller slow cooker if you want. Just know that it can take longer for the dip to fully melt when the ingredients are in a smaller container. If you have a larger crockpot it will take less time to heat through.
