Ingredients

Steak Bites – Reach for steak that you either buy pre-cut into cubes or you cut to cubes yourself. Stew meat works or you can buy a steak that you hand-cut. Tougher cuts of meat work, as you slow cook for hours it will make the beef nice and tender.

Seasonings – Packet Au Jus gravy and packet Ranch dry seasoning are used to pour into the slow cooker to season the beef. This is a very flavorful pairing.

Pepperoni Peppers – You can buy mild, medium, or hot peppers. I like to use the mild as they still have a bit of a punch of heat to them.

Butter – The butter will melt and become the liquid for this mixture. It is going to richen the flavor of the steak bites tremendously.

Parsley – Fresh chopped parsley is optional. I find it offers a gorgeous garnish for presentation value.

Variations To Recipe

  • Swap the steak with diced chicken or diced pork for a change-up in flavor.
  • Add less or more pepperoncini peppers and juice to enhance the flavor if you would like.
  • A splash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes will elevate the heat factor.
  • You could add mushrooms, onions, or even bell peppers for added flavor to the steak mixture.
  • Top the steak bites in the last 30 minutes with sliced or shredded cheese. Provolone, Swiss, or even mozzarella cheese would be a delicious option.

Tips For Success

Cut Of Beef

Reaching for a Sirloin steak, Chuck roast that is diced up or even stew meat are all great options for this recipe. You can buy a cheaper cut of beef as you are going to slow cook it for so long it will tenderize nicely.

Sear Steak First

If you want to go a step further on flavor you can sear your steak bites in a skillet with a little oil on the stove. It is going to create more texture but also lock in tons of flavor you wouldn’t have otherwise.

Crockpot Liners

If you want an easy cleanup you can buy a crockpot liner that is disposable that you can place in your slow cooker ahead of time. Then when you are done cooking, just throw away the plastic liner. You can buy BPA-free liners if you are worried about BPA.

Adjusting Seasoning

If you find it is too salty or too much flavor you can add additional meat to the mixture. Or you can use less than a whole packet of season mixes for the recipe. Feel free to adjust the ingredients as you would like.
