What exactly are pumpkin Oreo balls?

All you need are 5 ingredients to make these pumpkin-shaped Oreo balls or you can call them pumpkin truffles if you will. These are an Oreo and cream cheese flavored treat dipped in melted orange candy melts.

They look like a pumpkin but there is no pumpkin flavor to the balls. Little hands will enjoy helping decorate and make these no-bake bite-size treats.

Reasons You Will Love This Recipe

These are kid-friendly treats that you can make with your little ones this fall season. Whether it be a treat for a birthday, a pumpkin patch adventure, or even a Halloween treat. Little ones will love to help make them as well.

Pumpkin Oreo balls are a no-bake recipe that comes together in a matter of time. The longest part is making sure the candy coating is set up on the outside.

This is a flavorful combination of a sweet cream cheese and chocolate Oreo cookie. These are a treat that is hard to eat just one.

I love making these pumpkin truffles as they really enhance the dessert table’s appearance.

This recipe is very easy to make different flavors and looks like pumpkin balls.

Wrap up the Oreo balls in single-serve bags or place them in decorative boxes to gift to friends, family, and loved ones.

A simple make-ahead friendly treat.

Simple Ingredients Needed

Cream Cheese – Reach for softened cream cheese that is at room temperature. This is going to make the cream cheese easy to work with and mix properly with the other ingredients.

Oreos – Crushed Oreo cookies are the base of the Oreo balls. I used classic Oreo cookies for this recipe.

Candy Melts – Orange candy melts are going to give the pumpkin look perfectly. You can find these online or in the baking aisle at the grocery store.

Pretzel Sticks – The stem of the pumpkin is a pretzel stick! It is a cute and fun edible addition.

Airheads – Watermelon Airheads are going to mimic the green leaves of the pumpkin as it came right off the vine.

Variations to Recipe

  • You can use any flavor of Oreo cookies for this recipe. Pumpkin spice cookies would give a great pumpkin flavor to the truffles.
  • Add a splash of vanilla extract for added sweetness to the cookie balls.
  • Use a leaf sprinkle instead of Airhead watermelon candy. The leaf is totally optional as well.
  • If you don’t want to use a toothpick to make lines you can do a straight round ball for dipping.
  • Instead of a round ball, you can make the pumpkins in the shape of an oval.
  • Use a different color of candy melts if you would like.

Tips for Success

Soften Cream Cheese

Make sure you are allowing time for your cream cheese to soften. Otherwise, it will be very hard to mix in with the cookie crumbs.

Don’t Overmix

Make sure once the cookies are incorporated well with the cream cheese you call it good. Don’t overmix or it can make the mixture harder to work with.

Cookie Scoop

Consider using a cookie scoop so you get an evenly shaped ball. This is going to be helpful for getting similar-sized treats.

Toothpick for Lines

I used a toothpick to create a line to make the lines of the pumpkin. If you don’t have a toothpick you can use a butter knife or even flavorless floss.

Melting Chocolate

Make sure you fully melt the candy melts, and ensure it is nice and creamy. Don’t overheat or it can seize up the candy coating.

Shake off Excess Chocolate

When you dip the Oreo balls make sure to tap it on the bowl to shake off the excess chocolate. This will offer a really clean look to the pumpkins.

Parchment Paper

Place parchment paper or wax paper on the counter or even on a lined baking sheet. This will make it easy to transport from one area of your kitchen to another.

Storing

Make Ahead: You can make these pumpkin Oreo balls a day or two in advance. Simply whip them up and once they are set up store in the fridge until you are ready to serve.

Refrigerate: Make sure that all of the Oreo balls stay in the fridge, as they will spoil if left out on the counter. The Oreo truffles can last for around a week or so in the fridge.

Freezing: Now if you want to freeze your Oreo truffles simply store them in a freezer container or bag. The balls will freeze for 4-5 months. Then thaw in the fridge or eat straight from the freezer.
