Traditional Tiramisu is a beloved dessert made with ladyfinger cookies soaked in coffee and layered with a mixture of mascarpone cheese, sugar, and eggs. Ingredients Needed
Strawberries: You will use strawberries as the prominent flavor of this Italian-inspired strawberry dessert. Fresh or frozen berries will work.
Sugar: The sugar is used to sweeten the strawberries.
Pie Filling: I used strawberry pie filling to thicken the dessert. It is an excellent addition to the dessert.
Heavy Whipping Cream: You will pair this with the mascarpone to create an ultra-light texture.
Vanilla: Vanilla extract will enhance the flavors in this dessert.
Powdered Sugar: A sweetener and a thickening agent to ensure a super creamy texture.
Mascarpone Cheese: Tiramisu uses mascarpone to create a rich, creamy, one-of-a-kind texture.
Ladyfingers: These soft cookies will soak in the strawberry mixture to absorb all the dessert flavors.
Variations to Recipe
Berries: To change up the flavor of this dessert, use mixed berries, raspberries, blueberries, or even blackberries.
Graham Crackers or Vanilla Wafers: If you can’t get your hand on ladyfingers or don’t care for them, you can replace graham crackers or vanilla wafer cookies. It will change up the flavor a bit.
Lemon: Add lemon juice and zest to the strawberry mixture if you enjoy lemon. Top with fresh berries and more lemon zest.
Chocolate: Add white chocolate shavings or even milk chocolate to the mascarpone layer in the dessert and to the strawberries at the top.
Homemade Pie Filling: If you don’t want canned pie filling, make a homemade one with this dessert. It will elevate the flavor.
Cream Cheese or Ricotta: If you can’t understand mascarpone, use cream cheese or ricotta. Blend up the ricotta to make it ultra smooth. Whip the cream cheese quickly for a few minutes to get that ultra-smooth texture.
Strawberry Tiramisu is a versatile dessert that can be customized to suit your taste preferences. You can add other fruits such as raspberries or blueberries for a different flavor profile, or even drizzle some chocolate sauce over the top for an extra indulgent treat. The possibilities are endless when it comes to creating your own unique version of this delectable dessert.
Expert Tips For Success
- Make sure to allow the strawberries time to soak with the sugar to release the juice from the berries.
- Do not leave your ladyfingers in the strawberry juice for long. If you do it will become too soggy and fall apart.
- An offset spatula works great for spreading the mascarpone layer in the pan.
- Allowing time for this dessert to set up a bit will offer a cleaner cut when you slice into it.
- If you are making this in advance, wait to add the fresh berry topping until right before serving. The berries will release juices and can sog up the top of the dessert.
Storing Leftovers
Refrigerate: This dessert can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Then, just slice and eat chilled straight from the refrigerator.
Make Ahead: If you want to make it ahead, feel free to do it one day in advance. Please don’t go over that, or it can become too soggy.
